Following this film, we will witness the transformation of a single cell into a triton in six minutes. This amphibian lives on almost the entire continental continent and west of Siberia, from the UK to Anatolia and the Caspian Sea region. It reproduces in shallow waters, where the larvae deposit, which, after hatching, feed on plankton until their legs grow and they head to the ground.
The film, created by the Dutch director Jan van Ijken, captures the development of a unicellular zygote in the triton larva. Achieved with amazing details on a microscopic scale, the clip is a wonderful presentation of the cell division process whereby all members of the animal kingdom – from tritons to humans – become fully developed beings.
